They'll be Rocking at the State-- Easton, PA : Chuck Berry at the State Theater
Daryl Davis on guitar, the St. Louis band backing, and Chuck Berry on ... on... Vocals! (Hey-- if you like this, click on the masthead and find more.) (Although maybe not exactly like this!)
I am glad to see Chuck is looking a lot better now. I was at the show in Chicago where he collapsed on stage at the beginning of this year. Keep on rockin' Chuck!!! Hail! Hail! Rock and Roll!!!
If the Youtube clips are evidence he has put on some remarkable shows during the past year. It must have been hard to be at that Chicago New Years Day show-- but he sure was a trooper that day-- kept trying and trying.
I enjoyed this show-my 18th Chuck Berry Concert. It's the only time I ever saw him do an encore, and bumping hips w/a woman he invited onstage and also trading 'Go Johnny GO ' w/ another, clearly the King was having a good time. Favorite parts for me was when he played Memphis, an abbreviated Nadine and Walter Johnson's Mean Old World. While true he can't play or sing like he used to- Seeing him live, knowing how much he still loves to perform-just being there for me is enough-It's like magic ! - Like waking up as a kid Christmas morning . Bless his Rock n ROll Heart.
That's it, New Jersey! I don't go for the music anymore-- I know that at what Bob Lohr calls "a cellular level." I go just to see him, live, real, still there 56 years later!
Interesting way of putting it 'a cellular level". I did make a pilgrimmage once to Blueberry Hill in 2006 to see him there-good show w Cb2 and Ingrid contributing but afterwards during the wait for autographs -I brought my After School Sessions album- they announced NO MORE autographs right when I would be next-not that I care too much for autographs. I don't have any others, but I just wanted to thank him personally for how much joy his music n lyrics have brought me.
Chuck is the Big Band of Rock ! The father of the Duck Walk. We played tribute to him and the Duck Walkn at a party some yeras ago...
